Bidblox September 2024 Newsletter

Building from the ground up with a focus on core fundamentals

Our third newsletter is now underway!

Here are a few key updates in the last one month

  • We are currently participating in the Elevate Women+ Firehood Program, which has been an incredible learning experience. We've gained valuable insights and formed meaningful connections with both founders and investors, enriching our journey. A special thank you to Danielle Graham for her unwavering support throughout the program.

  • Based on the feedback from our design partners, we’re breaking our product down into core elements, making the user experience more agile and easier to navigate.

  • We’re also excited to announce that we’ve signed a new pilot customer—an architecture firm with global expertise in both the US and Canada.

  • The input from our design partners is helping us prioritize what to develop now and what to set aside for the future.

  • We feel fortunate to have the guidance of amazing mentors and supporters on this journey (a few are mentioned at the end of this letter).

What We're Building

  • We've been hard at work processing a significant number of RFPs and testing our platform with real customer data. This collaborative hands-on testing ensures that our tool aligns with their workflows, including supporting the critical go/no-go decision-making process for our user

  • We're also working closely with Google to roll out our services on GCP

  • We're also making strides in generating key proposal components, such as cover letters to start with, using data shared with us by our design partners

  • We are implementing advanced OCR and document processing tools to efficiently manage large and complex documents. These technologies will convert scanned or image-based files into structured, searchable formats, allowing us to extract text, data, and detailed elements like tables with high accuracy. This will streamline document organization, reduce manual effort, and improve productivity in managing document-heavy workflows

Who we are working with

  • We are consistently prospecting and seeking new customers each week, with our HubSpot funnel now containing over 45 leads

  • We've also received feedback from the procurement teams of two cities, providing insights on how our product can align with use cases in those cities, which are part of our roadmap

  • To explore the customer acquisition process, we've started experimenting with social media marketing activities. Some of the content from our social media channels is shared below

  • Additionally, we’ve begun creating brochures and other materials like videos to support upcoming customer demos

  • Our work continues with the support of our extended team, including freelancers, contractors, and interns

Events we Attended

  • GCP event: AI Hypercomputer Lunch & Learn

  • AID : Angel Investors Durham

  • RBCx Founder Social

  • Antler X BDC Seed Venture Fund Workshop

  • Radical Ventures Toronto AI Meet up

  • Gemini Day with Google

What’s Next

  • Our goal is to secure 6 pilot projects by the end of October, and we currently have 4 strong pilots in progress

  • We will keep testing our product features with additional data from our pilot customers and continue collecting their feedback

  • We are enhancing our proposal generation feature by analyzing historical data and integrating insights from our design partners to refine our product

  • We also plan to create a demo video for our product to share with initial prospective customers

  • Additionally, we are focusing on scheduling one meeting per week with venture capitalists or angel investors and having discussions to pave the way for our next funding round.

What we're seeking

  • Introductions to customers in AEC industry (in Canada & US)

  • Connections to angels and VCs to start our pre-seed round in November 2024

Special Thanks

Special thanks to our mentors and supporters in our start-up journey

For the bookworm in me, here are some quotes from my favourite reads!
“the inner game. This is the game that takes place in the mind of the player, and it is played against such obstacles as lapses in concentration, nervousness, self-doubt and self-condemnation. In short, it is played to overcome all habits of mind which inhibit excellence in performance.”
